Working with Ian has truly transformed my singing. His coaching and youtube videos are a wealth of vocal knowledge. Ian helped me understand why my voice was breaking and taught me the techniques to navigate those transitions smoothly. Thanks to his guidance, I can now hit high notes I once thought were impossible, and my confidence and skill have grown tremendously. I'm truly grateful for everything I've learned.
Does This Sound Like You?
✅ You’re over 40 and you strain to sing high notes.
✅ You crack, flip or tense up every time you approach your vocal break.
✅ Your throat feels tight, your voice gets tired quickly, and singing often feels like a fight instead of a joy.
✅ Deep down, you still dream of singing with freedom, confidence and control — without fear of your voice letting you down.
You're not alone...
How I Went From Straining Beginner to Finally Unlocking My High Notes
I was standing backstage wondering if my voice would get through the next song. Singing shouldn’t feel this hard, I thought. When the high notes came, I did what I’d always done — pushed harder — I choked and my voice gave out.
Walking off stage that night, I knew something was seriously wrong with the way I was singing. How could I possibly audition for another show or accept an offer to sing at a concert with the fear this could happen again.
Like most beginners, I spent years copying the singers I admired.
I pushed harder, used more air, more volume, more force — thinking that’s what “good singing” was. All it really did was build tension in my throat. I could hit some high notes, but they always came with strain and fatigue.
Even after taking lessons, singing still felt heavy. The harder I tried, the worse it got. I started avoiding high songs completely and stuck to low melodies because they felt safer.
Deep down, I kept wondering:
Why does singing feel like a fight for me, when other singers make it look so easy?
That question became the turning point.I began studying vocal technique, determined to understand what I was missing – but what I found shocked me. The best singers weren’t using more force at all. Their voices would fill concert halls for hours on end, night after night without strain or fatigue.
They were using coordination. They were singing with release. They were applying techniques that had been around for centuries — techniques I had never been taught. It felt like a light finally switched on.
I realised that singing higher wasn’t about pushing harder — It was about letting go of the tension holding my voice down.
From that moment I started unlearning the habits that were sabotaging me and replacing them with a new way of coordinating my voice. It wasn’t always easy. There were days I wanted to give up, days I wondered if my voice was broken, or if I just wasn’t meant to sing. But slowly, my voice began to change.
The strain faded. The cracks smoothed out. My high notes started to feel free.
I developed vocal systems that helped me sing higher without force, fatigue, or fear — and eventually those same systems allowed me to sing professionally, to audition with confidence and step onto a stage knowing that my voice would last an entire show or gig.
Once I experienced that transformation, I knew I had to share it. For the last 20 years, I’ve been helping singers unlock the same freedom I discovered — using the exact coordination-based methods that first changed everything for me.
You don’t need to spend years figuring this out the hard way like I did. The right coordination can unlock your voice faster than you think — and that’s exactly what I’ll guide you through in this 8-week program.

Ian was a huge help to me as I was preparing to sing a soprano solo in the Messiah for the first time. My high notes were tight and the transitions between my high and low registers were choppy. Ian was patient and insightful, making useful suggestions for exercises and techniques to loosen up my voice. When the time came for me to sing the solo, I was relaxed and confident. The sound flowed from me to the audience in a way that had never happened in rehearsal. Several friends told me later that the solo was stunning! I would never have made that much progress without Ian's guidance.

I can highly recommend Ian as a teacher. He's a great chap and makes the lessons enjoyable and constructive. Having a regular lesson has kept me honest with practice and I'm definitely a far better singer than when we started. If you've never taken lessons before give it a shot, you'll probably surprise yourself. You will be in safe hands.

Why I Only Work With a Small Group
Most singing programs try to scale by packing in large numbers of people, offering generic exercises, and giving little to no personalised support. That model simply doesn’t work — especially for older singers.
Fixing your break…
Improving your range…
Releasing tension…
These require individual attention, expert ears, and a customised plan.
That’s why I cap each cohort at just 15 singers.
In a small cohort, you get:
-
Weekly private coaching — not group calls
-
Detailed, personalised feedback tailored to your age, range and vocal history
-
Custom warm-ups and workouts created uniquely for YOUR voice
-
A coaching partnership where I know your voice inside and out
-
Support that adapts week-by-week as your coordination improves
Keeping the group small allows me to maintain the level of quality and personalisation that this transformation requires.
If you want a high-touch coaching experience designed specifically for singers over 40, I’d love to invite you to sign up.
