		<description>I had a teacher when I first started singing that also advised me to tense my stomach when singing.  The technique of tensing the abdominal muscles can give a sudden burst of power, but it completely destroys the ability to sing long relaxed phrases.

I had singing lessons for 3 years in the past, and although my teacher did help me improve my singing, she always insisted that I kept my stomach as tense as possible to support my singing. However, she somehow encouraged me to make the singing feel natural to me. So once I was over with the lessons, I tried to relieve the tension in the abdomen, despite my teacher&#039;s firm belief that you can&#039;t support your voice without it. And poof! That was it! Seriously, you can&#039;t make your voice sound good if you&#039;re not feeling good. And being so tense it actually aches is not what is typically assumed to feel good!</description>
